What is an NMI trade-approved platform scale?

An NMI trade-approved scale is approved for use in commercial transactions where goods are bought or sold by weight in Australia. You must select the trade-approved TCS configuration if the measured weight will be used to determine a price or charge.

What capacities are available?

The TCS platform scale is available in capacities of 30 kg, 60 kg, 150 kg, 300 kg and 600 kg. Each model has a different readability and platform size, allowing you to choose a configuration suited to the size and weight of the goods being measured.

What are the trade-approved capacities and readabilities?

The available NMI trade-approved configurations are:

  • TCS30: 30 kg × 0.01 kg
  • TCS60: 60 kg × 0.02 kg
  • TCS150: 150 kg × 0.05 kg
  • TCS300: 300 kg × 0.1 kg
  • TCS600: 600 kg × 0.2 kg
Are non-trade-approved versions available?

Yes. Non-trade versions are available with finer readabilities for general operational weighing. These versions must not be used to determine price in a commercial transaction. Check that you have selected the correct trade or non-trade configuration before ordering.

How do I choose the right TCS model?

Choose a capacity that comfortably exceeds the heaviest item you expect to weigh. You should also consider the required readability and platform size. The 30 kg and 60 kg models use a 330 × 425 mm platform, the 150 kg model uses a 390 × 530 mm platform, and the 300 kg and 600 kg models use a 600 × 700 mm platform.

Can the scale operate without mains power?

Yes. The TCS includes a rechargeable battery for operation away from mains power, as well as a 240 V AC adaptor. It also provides a low-battery warning.

What is the accumulation function?

The accumulation function allows the operator to combine the weights of multiple items or boxes into a running total. This is useful when a complete consignment cannot be placed on the platform at the same time.

Is the display easy to read?

Yes. The scale has a large backlit LCD mounted on a stainless-steel pole. The indicator can be tilted to provide a comfortable viewing angle for the operator.

What applications is the TCS suitable for?

The TCS suits warehousing, manufacturing, packing, dispatch, retail and other commercial or industrial weighing applications. The correct model depends on the required capacity, platform size, readability and whether trade approval is required.

Does the scale require calibration?

Regular calibration and performance checks help maintain measurement accuracy. The appropriate frequency depends on usage, operating conditions and compliance requirements. A calibration check is separate from trade approval and does not convert a non-trade scale into a trade-approved model.
