Customer: Fresh Landscapes & Gardens Pty Ltd
Scope: Supply and Fabrication of Corten Planter Boxes and Cladding
Project Background
The Rosebury Engine Yards project is a significant urban redevelopment venture in south Sydney which aimed to transform a disused brownfield site into a modern, functional retail and leisure space, all the while retaining its industrial charm. The project required inventive landscape construction solutions that would compliment the site’s industrial style aesthetics.
Fresh Landscapes & Gardens – a well-known landscape construction company – turned to NWI Fabrication for the supply and fabrication of custom Corten planter boxes and cladding, essential components in the landscape vision.
NWI’s Involvement
Pre-Contract Engagement
NWI’s involvement began early in the project during the pre-contract stage. Collaborating closely with Fresh Landscapes & Gardens, NWI provided a value-engineered price structure that aligned with the developer’s budgetary constraints. This early engagement allowed NWI to contribute to the project’s financial feasibility, making sure that the high-quality materials and fabrication services were delivered within budget.
Design Collaboration
NWI played a fundamental role in refining the architectural plans provided by Fresh Landscapes. Working hand-in-hand with project stakeholders, NWI detailed the design of the wall cladding and planter boxes. This process involved careful consideration of constructability constraints, ensuring that the designs were not only aesthetically pleasing but also feasible to fabricate and install.
Given the large scale of the planters, they were fabricated in numerous assemblies, as supplying and installing them as a single piece was not feasible.
Delivery and Installation
NWI was responsible for delivering the fabricated planter boxes and cladding to the site. The project had tight deadlines and multiple milestones that required strict planning and execution. NWI ensured that all components were delivered on time, allowing Fresh Landscapes to complete the installation without any delays.
Challenges and Solutions
Challenge: Fabricating large planter boxes that were too large to be supplied and installed in one piece.
Solution: NWI designed the planter boxes as modular assemblies. This approach allowed for easier transportation and installation on site, while still maintaining the visual appeal of the final product.
Outcome
The Rosebury Engine Yards project was successfully completed earlier this year in April 2024. The custom Corten planter boxes and cladding supplied and fabricated by NWI have become standout features of the landscape, contributing to the project’s industrial yet modern aesthetic. The collaboration between Fresh Landscapes & Gardens and NWI demonstrates how early engagement and close collaboration can lead to successful project outcomes.
